What will I take away from Organisational Learning and Development?

Albert Einstein said, “if I were given one hour to save the planet, I would spend 59 minutes defining the problem and one minute resolving it”.

Although this subject is about optimising employee performance, the way in which that is achieved is through the human resource development process. You will learn to develop a systematic way of interrogating a performance-based problem or understanding why the development opportunity exists in organisations. This will equip you with the skills needed to deploy targeted solutions that employees will resonate with. Think of it like removing performance bottlenecks and amplifying employee growth. This systematic process can be transferable across any organisation that has individuals driving performance, enabling you to have greater potential for genuine impact in any organisation.

Do I need prior knowledge in learning and development to succeed in this subject?

No, prior knowledge of learning and development is not required. However, if you have worked in an organisation in any capacity that requires you to identify employee performance and address them, that experience would be extremely helpful. However, this is not a prerequisite, and you can still be successful in the subject.

What’s the career potential in the learning and development field?

Organisational learning and development typically fit within the field of human resource management, attracting students that are passionate (evenly mildly) about amplifying individual, team or organisational performance. So, it’s not unusual that students ignite a spark for learning and development as a result of doing this subject, which means they often transition from other management-related roles into more specialised organisational learning and development – from learning and development managers through to Heads of People and Culture, depending on prior business experience.

Can I specialise my MBA in HR?

Yes, AIB offers an MBA specialisation in Human Resource Management, which prepares experienced and aspiring HR practitioners to move rapidly into more senior roles. Should you choose to specialise in the MBA (Human Resource Management), you will have the opportunity to explore subjects like Managing Change, Managing People in a Global Context, and Organisational Learning and Development to further develop your expertise in HR; while gaining an up-to-date and holistic business education through the rest of AIB’s core MBA subjects.
